Seven Days Pill Box – Design Sprint 11

The „Seven Days Pill Box“ was designed by the product design student Haoxiang Wang. He focuses on the redesign of existing products, making the medicine box more convenient for the elderly through the design.

Our population is aging and as we get older medicine will become something we need to carry and use every day. More than half of the 60-year-olds in Germany take medication every day.

Older people have much more spare time than younger people. 40% of the elderly go for walks, so it is an important issue to carry their medicine with them. Through the design of the medicine box, the elderly should be able to take medicine more conveniently and carry the box easily which facilitates their activities on the go.

User research and competitive product analysis have shown that the existing pill boxes have major problems in ergonomics, and it is inconvenient for the elderly to open and close these pill boxes. Additionally, the design of the medicine box needs to take into account the sealing performance and the food safety of the material. In terms of size, the medicine box should not be too large or too small, and it should be easy to carry and contain enough medicines. Sketching, modeling, 3D printing, and research on materials helped with the in-depth design of the medicine box.

Product details:

Through research on materials, PP material proved to be suitable as the main body of the medicine box. The lid is made of silicone, which can not only come into contact with food safely but also has a sealing effect. There is a total of three small spaces in the medicine box, which represent morning, noon, and evening. The interior space also meets the needs of the elderly. Through the design of an ergonomic opening, the elderly can open the box more easily. Furthermore, the inside of it is chamfered to facilitate the taking of pills or capsules.

Prototype:

The product consists of a large box and seven smaller boxes representing the seven days of the week, with a different colored box for each day. At the beginning of each week, the user can fill the box with medication and remove the corresponding box each day. Each box has three spaces, marked for morning, noon, and night, in which the user can put different medications.
